DESCRIPTION: Austria, grand sonnerie striking mantel clock, ebonized case with carved decoration, the alabaster columns with gilt capitals and bases, case top with gilt cornucopia flanking a very nice watercolor landscape behind glass, the painting with buildings, a farmyard with livestock, and 3 well dressed figures in the foreground, Roman numeral silvered dial with gilt engine turned center and bezel, blued steel hands, and pierced brass pendulum, brass 2 day movement with grand sonnerie striking, now without the music box originally contained in the base, c1840
CONDITION: minor veneer losses at base, left and right sides, base with split, right side, case top with split, gilding with losses and overpaint, dial dirty, darkened, water color very good, with one tiny loss at bottom, movement ticks, striking will not stop until mainspring is wound down, quarter train not running, Ht 25 3/4"
